PEL launches Baby Jaws under-counter glass crusher

Baby Jaws, also known as the PEL BB01, is an under-the-counter glass crusher designed for use in pubs, restaurants and hotels. The low-noise machine has been created by recycling specialist PEL to help cut the volume of glass waste by up to 80 per cent and avoid noisy throwing away of glass bottles at the end of shifts. The machine just needs to be installed on an even surface and when in use bottles are fed through, crushed and then collected in a tray. Baby Jaws stops automatically when the tray reaches 18kg in weight. The crushed glass can be emptied into small bins for regular bin collection or sealed in boxes to be returned to depots. The product has already been trialled in Ireland and is now being launched in the UK and the rest of Europe.

The machine is quiet, low maintenance and fits under the bar, avoiding the need for space outside for large recycling bins and for staff to move bottles. Oliver Hughes, chief executive of Ireland's Porterhouse Group, has been trialling the product at his bars and said he had been looking for a long time to find something that could meet his needs. "I had done huge amounts of research into different machines, but couldn’t find a suitable, small low-maintenance machine suitable in size to fit discreetly under the bar and at the same time do the work of a Trojan horse in crushing the bottles– then I discovered PEL,” he said.
