Simon Rimmer’s Greens restaurant in Sale, Manchester, has closed its doors little more than two years after its launch.

A note on the vegetarian restaurant’s social pages yesterday (17 September) confirmed that the restaurant had been closed ‘with immediate effect’ following a decision by the board of directors and shareholders.

“We’ve done everything possible to make this work, but it is now clear the business is untenable,” the statement read.

“We’d like to thank everyone, team members and guests, who have been on the Greens journey with us.”

The closure comes after Rimmer was forced to shut his original Greens restaurant in Didsbury back in January after 33 years trading as a result of rising cost pressures making the business ‘unviable’.

Rimmer and business partner Simon Connolly opened Greens on Sale’s Stanley Square in the summer of 2022.

The restaurant was a follow up to the pair’s original Didsbury restaurant, which opened back in 1990 and had become a restaurant institution in the area known for its interesting and ambitious vegetarian menus.

At the time of the Sale launch, Rimmer and Connolly spoke of their ambitions to grow the Greens restaurant brand across the North West.

However, plans for further expansion never came to fruition.
