Heritage Dulwich chef Dayashankar Sharma launches Indian delivery brand Jhakaas
Heritage Dulwich will launch a premium Indian delivery and takeaway brand covering much of South East London early next month.

Meaning ‘epic’ in Hindi, Jhakaas will operate from a newly acquired site fairly close by in Honor Oak Park and will be inspired by street food and classic dishes from four key cities: Delhi, Bombay, Kolkata and Chennai.

Chef Dayashankar Sharma - whose CV includes senior roles at high-end central London Indian restaurants Tamarind and Zaika - is hoping to open two more sites under the brand in London neighbourhoods within the next 12 months.

He has created a menu that majors on set meals for two. Options include kalpasi murgh kebab as well as lamb rogan josh alongside starters breads and sides. In addition, there is an a la carte selection of small plates, tandoor, mains, biryani and sides, including vegetarian and vegan options.

Jhakaas' delivery radius will span 3.5 miles and up to 5 miles for pre-orders at least 24 hours in advance and will be available to order via its website Tuesday – Sunday.

In keeping with the food, Jhakaas’s interior has been designed in the 'style of the myriad urban cafes that line the streets of India’s major cities'.

Diners placing a to-go order will be offered spiced karak chai, Desi coffee or nimbu pani along with snacks of khasta samosa and namak para (strips of pastry seasoned with ajwin and carom seeds). Homemade bottled chutneys and marinades will also be available for retail.

“Jhakaas brings something fresh to the Indian take-away market and is a scaleable concept suited to those surburbs just outside central London often lacking in a high quality Indian food," says Sharma.
