Maxwell's Restaurant Group to open Old Compton Brasserie this summer

Old Compton Brasserie will open on the former site of Muriel’s Kitchen on Old Compton Street.

Designed by Grapes Design, the 170-cover restaurant will be open from breakfast to dinner, serving seasonal British dishes, including a wide range of vegan options.

The space, which has been stripped back to expose its original industrial features, will showcase sculptures sourced from local markets and dealers, and artwork from local artists to create a bohemian feel.

Cocktails will be served from a large horse-show bar, and diners will have the choice of being seated at the floating mezzanine level or the outdoor seating area.

It will be the tenth restaurant in the group’s portfolio, alongside popular venues including Maxwell’s Bar and Grill; Palm Court Brasserie; Boulevard Brasserie; Roadhouse; Tropicana Beach Club; Café de Paris; PJ’s Bar and Grill; and Sticky Fingers.

Earlier this month, Maxwell’s Restaurant Group announced that it would be closing its Maxwell’s Bar and Grill site in Covent Garden’s James Street to relocate to the site currently occupied by Joe’s Southern Table and Bar.

The decision to close Joe’s and relocate Maxwell’s is because the latter has been a Covent Garden institution since 1979, and has a dedicated fan following

Joe’s Southern Table and Bar, which has operated at the King Street site since 2013 and is also owned by the Maxwell’s Restaurant Group, is expected to reopen at a new location outside of the Covent Garden area in the future.
