Boringdon Hall named Plymouth's first five-star hotel
The Grade I listed building, which dates back to the Domesday Book, was bought by hoteliers the Nettleton family for an estimated £2.25m in 2011.
It has since undergone a major refurbishment of all 40 bedrooms, and launched a new Gaia Spa and concierge and valet services this year.
Krzysztof Prokop, general manager at Boringdon Hall, said: “It has been a big challenge and a huge investment and we are delighted that all the hard work has been recognised with five stars.”
The award comes after the hotel appointed Scott Paton, former chef at the three AA Rosestte winning The Horn of Plenty hotel in Tavistock, as head chef earlier this year.
Paton oversees Boringdon’s Gallery Restaurant as well as the Gaia Spa ‘Spatisserie’.
He said: “It’s been an honour to be involved and part of this journey. Myself and my team are hugely proud of the achievement and for helping to contribute to this success.”
The AA’s five-star rating is awarded to hotels which offer ‘luxurious accommodation and public areas, with a range of extra facilities’ and staff able to serve in multiple languages.
It also requires hotels to greet guests upon arrival and for restaurants to feature a ‘high quality menu and wine list’.
