Two hotels have announced major development programmes, with the creation of luxury spas and additional bedrooms, in an effort to become two of the UK’s leading four-star properties.

Bedford Lodge Hotel

Bedford Lodge hotel in Newmarket is set to open a new spa in a neighbouring property, in addition to a £1.5m development program of the hotel.

The Spa at Bedford Lodge hotel is scheduled to open next Summer in the next-door Rockfield House, which was purchased by Bedford Lodge’s owners Review Hotels last year.

“Rockfield House is a truly beautiful building which has retained many of its original features such as its high ceilings and grand staircase,” said Bedford Lodge chief executive Noel Byrne. “These will all be restored to their former glory as the spa is created.

“The Spa at Bedford Lodge hotel will be open to the public by appointment for a range of treatments including manicures, pedicures, full body massages, facials and many more, as well as day spa and residential spa breaks.

While £500,000 has already been spent on the development of the spa, the four-star Bedford Lodge hotel in Bury Road is already undergoing the separate expansion, which will include the creation of 21 new bedrooms.

Boringdon Hall hotel

Meanwhile, Boringdon Hall hotel near Plymouth is set to undergo a multi-million-pound development of a further 60 bedrooms and luxury spa in a bid to become one of the UK’s leading four-star hotels.

Having recently been taken over by the Nettleton Group, which also owns the Bay Hotel and the Esplanade Hotel in Newquay, the development is part of a long-term strategy to to secure the future of the historic listed building.

“We are very excited to be announcing our plans for the development of Boringdon Hall,” said James Nettleton, director of Boringdon Hall hotel.

“The building has an amazing history and hopefully this new development will secure its future. We’ve appointed a successful and enthusiastic team to oversee the project and are looking forward to getting the ball rolling.”
