Pub group JD Wetherspoon has announced plans to open eight new pubs and a hotel in the next six weeks, with another hotel opening in autumn.

The first site, The Booking Office pub, will open on Tuesday 14 June in Edinburgh’s Waverley train station, with new sites in Newton Le Willows, Largs, Northolt, Formby, Huntingdon, Chatham, and Okehampton next in the pipeline.

The Northolt pub will also have a hotel, as will the Huntingdon pub, with that operation expected to open in September this year.

Wetherspoon chief executive, John Hutson, said: “We are looking forward to opening our new pubs and hotels, a number of which are in towns where we are not yet represented.”

The openings are the latest in an overall expansion push for Wetherspoon, just a year after the group announced it would invest £9m in hotel openings across the UK, with many more expected.

Although best known for pubs, the group opened its first hotel property in 1998, and now operates 45 hotels across the UK. Overall, it has 963 pubs and hotels across the country.
