Mele e Pere founders to open second site Gotto in London’s Stratford
Created by Peter Hughes and Andrew Mantovani and located near the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in the new Here East development, Gotto will serve Italian-inspired dishes with many homemade ingredients alongside produce from Italy. The name comes from a Veronese dialect word meaning ‘a glass of wine and a bite to eat’.
The venue will aim to offer a relaxed environment, from décor including wooden furniture, a graffiti mural, and open kitchen, as well as ‘dressed-down’ uniforms for the staff. There will also be seasonal cocktails, and brunch at the weekends.
Hughes and Mantovani first met while working at the Michelin-starred Wild Honey in 2008, and Mele e Pere opened in 2012. Specialising in Italian-inspired plates, alongside biodynamic wines and daily-changing menus, it also focuses on Vermouth, daily-made bread, pasta, and ice cream.
The Here East development is on the site of the former Press and Broadcast Centres for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and has been used as a broadcasting base for BT Sport since 2013. It is set to feature offices as well as retail space and many outlet units for food and drink.
