Alton Towers announces UK's first rollercoaster restaurant

Diners will sit below a spiralling steel track and watch as their order tackles two loop-the-loops before dropping 26ft – the equivalent of two double decker buses – down a tornado spiral to their table.

To avoid the prospect of splattered plates Alton Towers said each dish was being put through its paces at the Resorts ‘extensive test centre’ to guarantee it could withstand the ride.

Each dish will shoot along 400m of track to guest’s tables and travel an average of 173 miles a week – the distance between Sheffield and London.

With a sample menu promising ‘thrills, grills and spills’ dishes include the Ultimate Rollercoaster Burger and Oven-Roast Cod Lion and Chorizo.

The restaurant will also offer a premium evening menu for guests staying at the Resort's on-site hotels and in the local area.

Gill Riley from Alton Towers said: “The new Rollercoaster Restaurant will offer guests a unique dining experience that they can’t find anywhere else in the UK.

“The intricate network of loops and spiralling tracks is an incredible spectacle and we feel that the new restaurant is an attraction in itself. Each diner will enjoy a full 360 dining experience at one of the 13 tables and will get to select from the brand new menu of family favourites – including the Big Bowl of Lemon Meringue Mess!
