Budget design hotel chain Motel One has confirmed plans to open three new properties in the UK by 2018, taking its UK portfolio up to seven.

The Germany-based operator, which opened its fourth UK hotel in Manchester earlier this year, will open a 222-bedroom hotel in Newcastle early next year.

The hotel, near the city's Central Station, Theatre Royal and Grey's Monument will combine an old renovated building of 50 rooms, with a new 172 room building.

Autumn 2017 will see the arrival of the 301-bedroom Motel One Manchester-Cross Street, doubling up the company's presence in the city while Motel One Glasgow is scheduled to open in 2018.

The 374-bedroom hotel will be located next to Glasgow Central Station and will be Scotland’s largest hotel by room numbers.

Motel One's head of development Stefan Lenze said:  “The growing UK market is a very exciting one for Motel One and we are really looking forward to expanding our portfolio in the UK. By 2018 we will have seven hotels with about 1,900 rooms in the UK. Newcastle, Glasgow and Manchester are key cities for us and we will provide great value and designer accommodation for affordable prices."

Motel One currently operates two hotels in Edinburgh, one in London's Tower Hill and Manchester Piccadilly.
