The Shankly Hotel, a hotel in tribute to Liverpool Football Club legend Bill Shankly, is opening in Liverpool on 15 August.

Signature Living Developments, in partnership with Shankly’s surviving family members, are opening the £20m hotel on Victoria Street. It will be the city’s first football hotel.

The 83-bedroom development, based in a former Liverpool City Council building, will see further development as phase two of the project will include a rooftop bar and restaurant, an infinity swimming pool, a conference facility and a 100ft slide. It will be ready in time for Spring 2016.

The on-site museum will include memorabilia from Shankly’s reign as Liverpool manager that has never been displayed before.

Christopher Carline, Bill Shankly’s grandson and Director of the Shankly Hotel, said: “The hotel opening will be an incredibly proud moment for myself and the rest of the family and we are all very excited. We have been planning the development for a number of years, so it really will be special moment for us.

“So much care, attention and detail has gone into the hotel. I’m sure visitors will be in for a real treat.”

Lawrence Kenwright, co-founder of Signature Living said that the hotel will become a landmark.

“The Shankly Hotel is the first accommodation of its kind in Liverpool, a city synonymous with football. Given the popularity of the reds legend, with football fans the world over, it has the potential to become an international tourist attraction in its own right.

“Visitors to the hotel and museum will be able to see, first hand, the special features that are dedicated to the life and times of the great Bill Shankly.”
