Mamounia Lounge, the Middle Eastern restaurant, cocktail bar and ‘late-night den’ in Knightsbridge, has opened a sister site on Curzon Street in Mayfair.

The new, 230-capacity venue is spread over two floors, offering the same Middle Eastern drinking and dining experience as the Brompton Road site.

It is the brainchild of Omar Wafai, who launched the restaurant with his father with the ambition of creating a family-run business that offers a 'truly authentic' Middle Eastern experience in West London.

The menu in Mayfair will based on classic Arabic dishes, with head chef Ramdane Djebarri showcasing ‘the best of Moroccan and Lebanese cuisine’, from tangines in traditional clay pots to honeyed bites of baklawa and pistachio-studdied Arabic pudding.

Customers are encouraged to dine ‘banquet-style’, with Mezze dishes includingMoutabel, a smoky aubergine dip blended with tahini; and Mango Salad flavoured with an Arabic lime dressing.

A selection of pastries, grilled and charcoal-cooked meats and couscous dishes are also available.

Belly dancing and shisha

At night, the venue features belly-dancers and traditional Middle Eastern musicians, evoking the energetic buzz of Marrakech.

Two bars, headed by Tony De Carvalho, serve an eclectic cocktail menu with the restaurant’s mixologists incorporating the bold flavours of the region. Champagne cocktails include the Sheik Royal, which blends vodka infused Moroccan orange with elderflower; and the Mamounia Lounge signature Gold Digger - a combination of fresh passion fruit with vanilla vodka accompanied by a shot of champagne and topped with gold leaf flakes.

An outdoor terrace with full canopy and heated flooring offers a Shisha Menu, using prepared using ripe fruits, custom-blended to guests’ specific requirements, and paired with cocktails.

The restaurant’s is designed to be a sensory experience, with guests greeted by the scent of orange blossom and jasmine. Mosaicked floors, silver leaf ceilings and tables sprinkled with deep red Moroccan rose petals complete the brand’s ideology of ‘blending traditional hospitality with modern design’.

Mamounia Lounge Mayfair is now open at 37a Curzon Street.
