Jurys Inn’s first London hotel in Islington is set to become the flagship property for the mid-scale hotel chain, with a year-long, £12.1m extension project beginning this month.

The Pentonville Road hotel will be a beacon for ‘a fresh direction’ for the brand, with 143 new bedrooms being added (taking the total to 372), along with a new conference centre on the ground-floor.

“We are delighted to be ‘breaking ground’ on this fantastic project,” said Jurys Inn’s chief executive John Brennan. “Jurys Inn Islington will showcase a new direction for the group in terms of design and style, presenting a contemporary interior and sophisticated atmosphere whilst continuing to offer affordable accommodation and a warm and friendly service for our guests.

Jurys Inn recently ploughed over £1m into refurbishing the meeting rooms across its 32-strong estate. The new conference centre at Jurys Inn Islington comprises of seven state-of-the-art meeting rooms – the largest of which has space for up to 90 delegates – all offering the AIM-accredited Jurys Meetings product.

To facilitate ‘the changing lifestyle of guests’, a gym will also be included in the extended, as well as a completely remodelled lobby, restaurant and bar area and the introduction of a Costa Coffee bar.

Business and leisure

The Islington extension comes as part of a wider refurbishment programme across the Jurys Inn group with over 1005 bedrooms and public areas having already received a complete makeover in 2012.

Jurys Inn has earmarked a total spend of £25 million for projects up to the end of 2014 as part of an on-going refurbishment programme.  The overall investment focuses primarily on refurbishments however, it also includes some IT and systems spend which will allow Jurys Inn to deliver significantly enhanced services to customers.

Brennan added: “The extension will enhance the hotel’s accommodation and meetings offering, making Jurys Inn Islington the ideal choice for both business and leisure guests travelling to the capital, particularly with its proximity to Angel tube station, the City of London and City Airport.

“Islington was the first Jurys Inn hotel in London so this project marks an exciting time for the group and we are looking forward to witnessing the transformation that will take place.”

Contractors McAleer and Rushe will be working on the Jurys Inn Islington project, with the first stage of construction beginning this month. The 51-week extension is due for completion in September 2014.
