Circo rebrands restaurant 1770 to widen appeal
Taking its name from the year when Philip Astley gave the first circus performance as we know it today in England, the 120-cover restaurant at the city's Albert Dock, will re-open on 14 August under its new identity.
1770 will operate alongside Circo's bar and cafe bar and will open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner with a new menu featuring pasta and risotto specials alongside mains such as Roast duck breast, Duo of lamb and Salmon supreme.
An extended cocktail menu will also feature with new cocktails appearing alongside best-sellers Candy Floss Martini, Toffee Apple Martini and the 3 Rum Juggler.
Continuing the circus theme, the new-look restaurant will be fitted out with aerial silks and hoops, horse lambs and a circus placard above the bar.
New identity
Circo general manager, John Dixon said the company had felt it was time for the venue's restaurant to have its own identity.
“With the Circo brand already going from strength to strength, 1770 will give us a great platform to build upon our current success. Our specialist venue provides the ultimate circus experience and we’re looking forward to the forthcoming synergy between 1770 and Circo Bar and Café Bar," he said.
Circo, which opened in 2007, hosts live circus performances in its bar and restaurant areas with fire breathers, acrobats, stilt-walkers, sword swallowers and more making an appearance at its nightly shows. It also hosts a fortnightly freakshow which combines a mixture of traditional circus entertainment with quirkier acts.
