Ever So Sensible opens 12th site with re-launch of The Hume Arms pub

The village pub has been closed for the past 18 months and has undergone a £150k refurb since the Nottingham-based group acquired the property from Enterprise Inns in March. It will now be operated under the group's expanding sub-brand - Lincolnshire Pub & Kitchen.

The renovation has led to a complete re-fit of The Hume Arms and an extensive landscaping of the garden area. 

Chris Bulaitis, managing director of Ever So Sensible Restaurants said the renovation had been designed to restore some of the building's charm. "After taking on the lease, we found ourselves with a stunning old building with plenty of character," he said. "It just needed plenty of care and attention," the businessman added.

"It’s clear that The Hume Arms was once a vital part of the community in Torksey and it’s been about restoring that for the people of the village," Bulaitis explained. "Since opening the doors, we’ve had an incredibly warm welcome.
 
"So many great venues have fallen by the wayside in the past few years, and we are proud to be in a position where we can actually open doors," he added.

The Ever So Sensible team has revamped the venue's menu to focus on dishes with ingredients from local suppliers. The drinks list has been expanded - six cask ales will be available as well as a wide selection of wines.
 
The team has also invested in a stone-baked pizza oven and will be cooking pizzas for pub goers to takeaway.
 
“We know that some of our customers just pop in to see us on the way home and others are passing through the village and we wanted to make sure they had the option to try something from our menu too," Bulaitis said. "That’s why we made the decision to offer traditional fish and chips and handmade pizzas to take away too."

Ever So Sensible Restaurants now operates 12 sites, including a number in Lincolnshire. The Horse & Groom in Lincoln was acquired in 2011 and also operates under the Lincolnshire Pub & Kitchen sub-brand. 

Adam Garmory, general manager of both sites, said: “It’s about not over complicating things. People want great food, a wide selection of drinks and a relaxed atmosphere and of course good service. Over the years some have tried to be too gimmicky and that kind of thing has a natural shelf life. We are almost moving forward by taking things back to how they used to be, and its working.

Last year, the Midlands-based pub and restaurant operator also bought the lease on the former Fothergills bar and restaurant in Nottingham.
