Rosewood Hotels & Resorts to invest £85m in Chancery Court Hotel revamp
Rosewood will open the 262-bedroom and 44-suite hotel as Rosewood London in October following the multi-million pound revamp that will see New York-based Tony Chi and Associates redesign the bedrooms and public areas to give them 'the feel of a stylish London residence'.
Work will include the creation of the Manor House Suite in a private wing of the hotel that will have the flexibility for a configuration of six bedrooms with extensive living space, the refurbishment of 11 events spaces and the re-branding of the in-house spa as Rosewood's signature Sense spa.
Renowned restaurant designer Martin Brudnizki has also been recruited to redesign the hotel's bar and restaurant Pearl, which will close and re-open under a new name in October.
The restaurant, named after the building's former purpose as the original headquarters for the Pearl Assurance Company, saw the departure of head chef Jun Tanaka last year as he left to open his own London restaurant.
Hotel portfolio
Chancery Court Hotel, set within an Edwardian Grade II-listed building, was opened in 2000 by Marriott International and managed by its Renaissance brand until June 2011 when the contract ended.
Matthias Roeke who was recruited as general manager by the hotel's owners in 2011, has been made managing director and will oversee the revamp which will be carried out while the hotel remains open for business.
Radha Arora, president of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts said while the hotel would be given an overhaul, the company would be sympathetic to the original features of the Edwardian Belle Époque, retaining features such as the original carriageway entrance to the arrival courtyard and the grand Pavonazzo marble staircase.
“Rosewood London will be a milestone addition to our portfolio, not only as it is in a major European capital, but because the legacy of the historic building itself is a true representation of our A Sense of Place philosophy," he said.
“We are delighted to introduce once again a classic and one-of-a-kind hotel to our Rosewood guests.”
Dallas-based Rosewood operates luxury hotels across the world, including The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel in New York and Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas. Taking over Chancery Court Hotel, its first property in the UK, is part of global expansion plans for the group this year which include openings in Abu Dhabi and Beijing.
