Portobello House Hotel in Notting Hill has re-opened its restaurant as a bistro with ex-Gordon Ramsay chef Jan Ostle appointed head chef.

The new 60-cover restaurant and 12-cover bar opened for business yesterday on the ground floor of the family-run boutique hotel, owned and run by Guy Binns and his partner Lara Limata-Adams alongside Lara's son Carlo Limata, who is the hotel's general manager and his wife Louisa.

Ostle, who worked under Gordon Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road and Phillip Howard at The Square before joining Fernando De la Cruz at Santo on Portobello Road, will serve British and European classics at lunch and dinner with starters priced between £5 and £8, main courses from £10 to £15 and desserts from £3.50 to £6. The chef will also run a fixed-price menu at lunch.

The menu, which is designed around using sustainable, seasonal produce, includes starters of smoked ham hock terrine with pickled cucumber and fritto misto di verdure with aioli. Main courses include whole grilled black bream with salsa verde and Onglet steak with triple cooked chips and red wine jus while desserts will include chocolate mousse with salted honeycomb and tarte tatin.

The restaurant's front-of-house will be overseen by restaurant manager Hugo Roldan, a former head waiter at Maze and more recently restaurant manager at Mele e Pere in Soho. The European and New World wine list has been drawn up by co-owner Louisa Limata with bottles ranging from £16 to £55.

Portobello House Hotel was acquired by property developers Binns and Limata-Adams last year who redeveloped the three-storey former Victorian inn into a boutique hotel before re-launching it in June.
