Whitbread plans Premier Inn at Worcestershire County Cricket Club
Whitbread, Premier Inn’s parent company, is investing £7.5 into the property which, if planning permission is accepted, is expected to begin being built in September this year.
Being part of the iconic New Road ground shows how flexible Premier Inn can be when it comes to getting into the very best locations,” said John Bates, head of acquisitions for Whitbread hotels and Restaurants.
“Our research tells us that there is an undersupply of quality hotel rooms in Worcester which we are keen to put right. A new Premier Inn will not only help to attract more tourists to the historic City, but will also provide business travellers with affordable and centrally-located accommodation.”
Premier Inn’s UK expansion plans
Last year, BigHospitality revealed Premier Inn’s major London expansion plans, with plans to double its size in the capital by 2016.
“Premier Inn is a UK success story,” added Bates. “Across the country we are seeing strong demand for our high quality product which is driving our expansion into new sites. We have over 47,000 bedrooms in the UK today and our intention is to grow to 65,000 by 2016 to keep pace with customer demand.
David Leatherdale, chief executive of Worcestershire County Cricket Club, added: “We are delighted that a quality brand such as Premier Inn has chosen to open a hotel at our site.
“Not only will the addition of a Premier Inn and new facilities for the Club transform our ground into a 365-day-a-year venue, it will help attract further inward investment into Worcester and produce a complex the City can be proud of.”
Once complete, the new hotel and restaurant will create more than 45 full time jobs in the town.
