Rohit Ghai to open new high-end Indian restaurant next month in London’s Knightsbridge Vatavaran
Kutir and Manthan chef patron Rohit Ghai is to open a new high-end Indian restaurant next month in London’s Knightsbridge with his long-term business partner Abhi Sangwan.

Vatavaran will be Ghai’s third restaurant in the capital and take over the site that previously housed Geode Restaurant and Bar on Beauchamp Place.

Meaning 'atmosphere' in Sanskrit, Vatavaran is described as a ‘multisensory dining experience designed to immerse guests in the essence of the Himalayas’.

Details on the menu, however, are yet to be revealed.

Set over four floors, each one designed to ‘symbolise a unique element of the Himalayan landscape’, Vatavaran will feature a dedicated bar area called Shikhar, which will serve a ‘unique’ cocktail menu that ‘pays homage to the spices found in the Indian mountains’.

Ghai is one of London’s most experienced Indian chefs and previously cooked at Bombay Bustle; Jamavar, where he earned a Michelin-star in under a year; Gymkhana; Trishna; and Benares.

Working with Sangwan, he launched modern Indian restaurant Kutir in London's Chelsea back in 2018.

Manthan, the pair’s second London outpost, opened in 2021.

As well as their London business, Ghai and Sangwan also oversee a number of international restaurant ventures including Rivayat in Marrakech, Aangan in Muscat’s Shangri-La Al Husn, and Iksha Ikska in Doha.
