Burger chain Fat Hippo rolls out breakfast menu
Burger brand Fat Hippo is hoping to take a bite out of the breakfast market with a new menu that’s focused on breakfast burgers and pancake stacks.

The move follows a ‘secret’ trial in Durham and sees the 17-location group become the only national casual dining burger player to offer breakfast outside of an airport setting.

Available seven days a week between 9am and 11:30am for those dining in or via delivery, the Burg-fast Menu includes the Uncle Buck (a breakfast burger comprising a sausage patty, smoked bacon, American cheese, potato hash ‘rounds’, a sunny-side-up egg, Fat Hippo sauce and chipotle ketchup); pancake stacks with a selection of toppings including bacon and maple syrup, and Oreos.

Supporting items include hash brown rounds topped with flavourings including sriracha and Parmesan; orange juice; and unlimited filter coffee.

Fat Hippo breakfast is starting to roll out across its locations from next week (16 September).

"We kept the Durham trial off socials until we were 100% confident," says Fat Hippo head of marketing and communications Nick Fountain. "However, we were receiving a lot of questions via social if we would ever do breakfast, along with people walking in from the streets as the teams were setting up for service which gave us the push.

"After the trial, we feel confident to roll it out across the group. Social media has been crazy following the announcement, it feels like it's been received well."

Founded by Michael Phillips in 2010, Fat Hippo opened its first restaurant in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

It has since expanded across the UK with the bulk of its growth concentrated in the North of England and Midlands.

It made its London debut in 2022 with a site in Shoreditch and now also operates a site in Soho.

Earlier this month, Fat Hippo was shortlisted within the R200 Award's Best Value Restaurant Group category.
