The duo behind Docklands nightclub The Cause will open a restaurant and cocktail bar on Dalston’s Stoke Newington Road later this month.

Named after an influential album from 1970s alternative rock band Television, The Marquee Moon will occupy the former site of The Marquis of Lansdowne.

Visitors can expect an eclectic sharing menu that features twists on contemporary pub classics with an emphasis on East Asian flavours, complemented by a ‘refined and inventive’ cocktail offering.

Later in the evening, the focus will turn to the hi-fi sound system playing music curated by The Cause until 3am.

The Marquee Moon is The Cause founders Stuart Glen and Eugene Wild most food-focussed venue to date and follows their recent openings of Hackney Wick bar All My Friends and The Greyhound in Peckham.

Created by New Zealand-born executive chef Huri Rapana Neil the menu will ‘pay homage to the culture of Thai food in English boozers’.

Dishes will include masala potato flatbread; chicken char siu sando with fermented ginger cream; and slow cooked sai ua sausage and mash served pinwheel style with bold Southeast Asian flavours.

Devised by Emmanuel Ferris-Hue (ex The Ned and Disrepute), the drinks menu will have a focus on local and independent beers and spirits, with the cocktails comprising of fresh takes on classics, and in step with the food menu, based largely around ingredients from across East Asia.

The Marquee Moon will open with a full interior renovation, complete with a handcrafted terrazzo topped bar, open kitchen, and JBL HI-FI soundsystem courtesy of AudioGold.

Fitted out with 80 restaurant covers in the street level restaurant, the interior nods towards Art Deco influences, with an emphasis on sweeping curves encouraging a natural flow throughout the restaurant.

“We’re excited to be opening The Marquee Moon in Dalston literally a few doors down from where we met back in 2014. Ten years later, both our friendship and portfolio have grown hugely, championing old friends such as Huri and our GM - Rosa, feels like a real homecoming for both of us,” the pair say.

“Dalston is coming back in a big way, there’s been so many incredible new bars and restaurants opening on Kingsland Road, and we’re thrilled to be a part of this resurgence.”

The Marquee Moon launches on 15 August.
