L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele to open second restaurant, in Soho
Pizza restaurant L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele is to open a second site in London, in Soho.

The Neapolitan brand is taking over the site of the first Patisserie Valerie on Old Compton Street (once it was relocated round the corner from Frith Street following bombing during WW11) and is expected to open this summer.

The brand currently operates a restaurant on Marylebone’s Baker Street.

L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele was founded in Italy in 1870 by Salvatore Condurro. His son Michele took on the family pizza-making business, opening his first pizzeria in 1906. The brand opened in Marylebone in early 2018.

The two-storey, 120-cover Marylebone restaurant is home to a 2,300kg pizza oven in its open kitchen.

The Soho restaurant will be ‘a new elegant, stylish version of Da Michele with new impressive pizzas’, according to the company, which replaced the image of Michele to that of John Lennon in its iconic logo to announce the new opening.

Like its Marylebone sister, the restaurant’s focus will be on pizzas, which are set to include the marita – half margherita, half marinara; the o’cazone – pressed pork, salami, fior de latte, ricotta, pecorino and basil; and its sasiccia e friarielli – made with pork sausage mince and broccoli.

The restaurant also serves a fried pizza.
