Johnny Stanford to head up No.1 Broad Street restaurant this spring
The chef has announced that he will head up the kitchen No.1 Broad Street Restaurant in the coming months. The restaurant is still under construction, but is set to open this spring.
Stanford had previously been cooking at West Sussex pub The Half Moon in Kirdford having taken up the post at TV presenter and model Jodie Kidd's gastropub in May last year.
The restaurant will serve modern European food, with test dishes including asparagus, buttermilk panna cotta and horseradish. It says to expect 'refined food, innovative flavour combinations and beautiful plates'.
Stanford was head chef at Pascere in Brighton when it opened, replacing Tom Griffiths, who was previously set to take the position. He left the restaurant in April 2018, with Pascere eventually closing at the end of last year.
He has more than 12 years' experience in Michelin-starred kitchens, having worked with Paul Kitching at his 21212 restaurant, and as senior sous chef at The Pass, under its former chef Matt Gillan.
Gillan is also currently looking to open his own restaurant in Sussex. The chef is crowdfunding to raise £60,000 to help open reopen The Chequers pub in Slaugham, West Sussex, as new destination restaurant Heritage.
