Casual Dining Group teams up to raise £40,000 in ‘Race to Rio’
The Casual Dining Group (CDG) has teamed up with charity The Prince’s Trust to help raise £40,000 in just four days, in a ‘Race to Rio’ event.

Staff at the group ‒ which operates the Bella Italia, Café Rouge, and Las Iguanas brands ‒ has joined the fundraising effort by pledging to cumulatively cycle the 5,839 miles to Rio, on 22 static bikes located across the CDG central offices and restaurants.

The event, which was created by senior CDG members as part of a day to ‘get their creative fundraising juices going’, will take place during the final weekend of the Rio Olympics.

The Opening Ceremony for the Brazilian Games is set to take place this evening (6 August), with the Closing Ceremony scheduled for Monday 22 August.

The event is part of a wider partnership with the Prince’s Trust, with CDG planning to send company representatives to the charity’s ‘Get Hired’ days, aiming to recruit apprentices into the business.

CDG finance director Tim Doubleday, said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with The Prince’s Trust – it’s a great charity and we hope the ‘Race to Rio’ initiative acts as a launch pad for a long and sustained relationship. The Prince’s Trust was the perfect match and we’re looking forward to working closely together to help tackle industry issues, such as youth unemployment.”

Tara Leathers, director of fundraising at The Prince’s Trust, said: “We are immensely grateful to Casual Dining Group and their staff for their ‘Olympic’ efforts to raise vital funds for The Trust as we seek to support 100 more young people each day. We are particularly impressed by the scale of this campaign.”

The Prince’s Trust was founded by The Prince of Wales in 1976, and states it has helped 825,000 young people move into education, work or training, and is aiming to help 59,000 this year.
