Pod launches first site in four years as part of wider expansion
Pod, the ‘healthy’ grab-and-go group, has opened its first new shop in almost four years, on London’s Kingsway, near Holborn.

The new 1,582 sq ft site opened on Friday 29 July, and offers in-eat options in the seating area or on high bar stools, plus a grab-and-go counter, and a full delivery and catering service for local businesses and workers.

Part of a new 12-month expansion push for the currently 23-strong brand, the new venue will focus on healthy breakfasts and lunches, and good quality coffee, from Monday to Saturday.

The updated interior is said to be inspired by high-end restaurant designers such as Afroditi Krassa and IDL Designs, and is centred on different shades of green along with changing lighting, plus what Pod calls ‘slick screens’, leather seats, marble table tops, granite, and Scandi-style trees, in a bid to reflect the business’s emphasis on natural ingredients served within a relaxing atmosphere.

John Postlethwaite, executive chairman at Pod, said: “This is an exciting time. The new world Pod is answering all our customer needs with a nutritious and delicious range of food which can be consumed in a beautiful, relaxing and inspirational environment.”

Pod was first founded in 2005 and now runs to 23 sites across London. It claims to be one of the first grab-and-go groups to offer porridge and freshly scrambled eggs, and also employs trained coffee baristas in each of its shops. In 2011 it announced it had secured £3.5m worth of funding to allow it to grow to 25 sites, and had originally planned to do this by 2012.
