Albion to open second and largest site in London’s Clerkenwell
The new venue at 63 Clerkenwell Road will include multiple dining areas, plus take-out counters and retail space, and will offer the group’s familiar menu of breakfast, brunch, lunch and supper using seasonal ingredients.
There will also be an oyster bar serving a wide array of seafood and shellfish options, a pie room offering a changing menu of five fresh pies served with beers including Albion Pale Ale, a cheese and charcuterie ‘corner’ downstairs, plus a cocktail bar serving original cocktails in the evening.
Décor will aim to celebrate British designers, with the interior expected to be a joint project between Sir Terence Conran, Albion owner Peter Prescott, and Isabelle Chatel de Brancion from Spin Architecture. The site will also make use of furniture and other elements sourced from the many local showrooms and designers located in Clerkenwell, which is known for its annual Clerkenwell Design Week.
Typical dishes will include the Full Albion traditional cooked breakfast, kedgeree, duck egg breakfast plates, sausage and mash, pies, fresh fish, steak, hot sandwiches and baked good snacks, plus a range of teas, coffee and juices. Sundays will offer roast dinners, and all day brunch, alongside live DJs, and daytime film screenings.
Retail-wise there will be a range of new cook-at-home suppers available from 1 July, as well as groceries from established brands such as Maldon salt, pastries, freshly-baked breads, store cupboard items and packaged food gifts.
Albion first opened in 2009 in Shoreditch, as a café and restaurant, plus a grocery, wine shop and craft beer stockist.
Commenting on the new opening, Prescott said: “Clerkenwell is simply the perfect fit for our newest and biggest Albion yet. There’s so much going on in the area from a design perspective, and a rich and long history of craftsmanship and creation. We hope our food, drink and overall ethos will be well received.”
