Global Wellness Day: Hospitality businesses urged to pledge their support
Liz Holmes, previously spa director at Darlington hotel Rockliffe Hall and now health and beauty manager at Virgin Active, hopes the UK can become a global ambassador of Global Wellness Day, an initiative set up to celebrate wellness and healthy living.
This year, the not-for-profit event on 11 June, will be marked in 70 countries with UK hotel groups signing up to support it including Mandarin Oriental, Accor, Q Hotels, Jumeirah Spa Resorts and Ramside Hall in Durham.
With a Holiday Trends survey by BDRC Continental showing growing demand for wellness breaks among UK travellers, Holmes said there were obvious benefits for hospitality companies promoting good health to get involved.
"It’s a fantastic opportunity to reach new customers and markets whether you’re a spa or health club providing wellness advice, a hotel promoting relaxation or a restaurant offering healthy eating options. There are so many ways to get involved," she said.
Holmes recommends businesses set up free events or activities on or around 11 June to join the initiative.
"It can be anything that showcases what you already do well such as a mini-massage class, healthy eating ideas, a yoga session, mindful meditation, juice-making or a nature walk if you have the surroundings," she said.
“We’re now urging more hotels and spas from around the UK to pledge their support so that we can make this a truly UK-wide event supported by our thriving hospitality sector."
Global Wellness Day, which has the slogan ‘One day can change your whole life’, brings together exercise, healthy eating and spiritual teachings and hopes to raise awareness about living well throughout the world.
