Universal Cookery and Food Festival heads north for the first time
Now in its fourth year, the festival, which invites chefs of all levels to view demonstrations, talk to farmers, growers and producers, visit the farmers market and discuss trends, will take place at Vallum Farm, Northumberland on 23 September.
This year’s line-up includes Kenny Atkinson, chef patron of House of Tides, Sat Bains chef patron of Restaurant Sat Bains, 21 Hospitality Group’s Terry Laybourne, The Ritz’s John Williams, as well as Aaron Mulliss and Nick Beardshaw from Tom Kerridge’s kitchens.
One of the current trends on display is entomophagy where guests will have the chance to eat insect dishes by Smoking Goat, Soho chefs Seb Holmes and Thom Lawson.
Craft Guild of Chefs representative, Lee Maycock said: “It’s not something from the local area but it’s a trend emerging from places such as Bristol and London that we can take up with us and we like to do something that is a bit left of centre.”
The evening will end with a barbecue, free beer and a performance by a local band.
Tickets cost £99 plus VAT per person and include entry to the event and evening entertainment, refreshments, and coach transfers to and from Newcastle train station.
