Restaurant 1701 on the move

The restaurant, which is one of four kosher restaurants in the world to be listed in the Great Britain & Ireland Michelin Guides, said the 43-cover site at Bevis Marks had becoming ‘limiting’.

“​Given the restaurant's acclaim, we now feel it necessary to relocate to realise our full potential,” said a spokesperson. “A new site has been identified with a landlord who shares our vision.”

There are also plans to roll out the 1701 brand into other channels including event catering, fine dining deliveries and a retail presence, the spokesperson added.

Restaurant 1701​

Restaurant 1701 was launched by gourmet kosher brand Adafina in May 2013​​ to fill a ‘gap in the market’ for kosher fine dining.

The restaurant’s kitchen is headed up by Israeli chef Oren Goldfield, who previously worked at Nopi restaurant in Soho.

Goldfield’s menu takes inspiration from nomadic Jewish cuisine, with mains including Adafina (braised ox cheek with chicken neck, pearl barley, coco beans, truffles and turnips), Memulaim (vine leaves, sticky rice, chestnuts, freekeh, aubergine, tomatoes and giant couscous) and Flanken (hay-smoked short ribs, dukkah, celeriac puree and pomegranate jus).

Since opening, the restaurant has been listed in the Great Britain & Ireland Michelin Guides for two years running.
