Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel unveils £4.6m expansion

The programme, which brings the hotel’s room number to 230, also included a redesign created by Goddard Littlefair to celebrate the venue’s Glaswegian heritage.

The new superior double rooms and junior suites feature Italian marble bathrooms, with a mix of rainfall showers and classic ceramic roll-top baths.

Including various reminders of historic Glasgow throughout, the redesign also put the focus on technology, with full-length wall mirrors that turn into large-screen LED televisions at the touch of a button.

The entrance and ground floor reception area have also been renovated to feature a fireplace.

Series of investments​

This latest investment follows a £20m refurbishment in 2010​​, for which the venue closed for nine months from January to September.  

The 2010 renovation emphasised the hotel’s event focus, with the addition of 21 flexible meeting rooms for up to 600 delegates, as well as a 500-capacity Grand Ballroom.

Located on Glasgow Central Train Station, the four-star hotel also features the Tempus Restaurant and Champagne Central Bar overlooking the station.

It was acquired by hotel and conference operator Principal Hayley in 2009.
