Restaurants, hotels and pubs invited to add business to new accessibility website

Restaurants, hotels and pubs are being invited to list their business on a new reviews website for disabled people.

EuansGuide is a new community website set up to provide disabled people with an up-to-date database of venues in the UK and first-hand experiences of them.

Listing on the website, which is endorsed by world-renowned physicist professor Stephen Hawking, is free and will enable hospitality businesses to reach customers with disabilities and let them know how they can cater for their needs.

Hawking said the site would make 'a huge difference' to disabled people across the UK:

"There is a severe lack of quality information about disabled access in the UK, particularly services giving the end-user's perspective. For this reason it can be very difficult for disabled people and their carers to find out where they can go to enjoy many of the everyday activities most people take for granted, such as visiting a coffee shop or going out for drink with friends," he said.

"As a result, despite all of the legislation supporting accessibility, disabled people are effectively excluded from many mainstream venues and activities, for fear of being faced with inadequate facilities."

The website will encourage reviewers to fill in a short form which focuses on a business's accessibility and will focus on four areas - parking and transport, access, toilets and staff.
