Albert and Michel Roux Jnr to run restaurant at 2014 Cheltenham Festival
The restaurant, Fairlawne, named after the Fairlawne Estate in Sussex, the home of racehorse trainer Sir Peter Cazalet where Roux was head chef during the early part of his career, will open during the festival, which runs from 11 to 14 March 2014.
“I am delighted to be part of the hospitality at next year’s Cheltenham Festival. Since working at Fairlawne many years ago I have always been aware of horse racing in the UK and the unique sport that captures the attention of so many people,” said Albert.
“Being part of The Jockey Club Fine Dining offering at such a prestigious event like the festival is an honour and Michel and I will be working on the menus to ensure that they are the quality that people associate with the Roux name and the very best of cuisine.”
The father-and-son team will work on devising a menu for the Fairlawne Package, which includes a welcome reception with canapés, a four-course lunch and afternoon tea.
Ian Renton, regional director of Cheltenham Racecourse said: “I am really proud to launch Fairlawne. Cheltenham and its owner, The Jockey Club, pride itself on providing the very best in customer experience and with the introduction of Fairlawne this is another element which makes The Cheltenham Festival such a special event.
“I’m sure that the partnership will be hugely successful and that the restaurant will be fully booked on all four of the race days."
Cheltenham Racecourse is owned by The Jockey Club and Fairlawne will be one of just a handful of restaurants that form its fine-dining offering across the 15 racecourses it represents.
