Richard Caring-backed Grillshack to open in September
The all-day counter service grill will open on 4 September on the site of former Soho bar Alphabet Bar, where it will allow diners to eat-in or take food away from breakfast through to late into the evening, seven days a week.
Askew's simple menu will include dishes predominantly prepared on a grill in the open kitchen with breakfast including grilled sourdough with scrambled eggs, fried eggs or maple bacon (£3.25); buttermilk apple pancakes with syrup (£3.50) and a full English breakfast for £5.95.
An all day menu will run from 11.30am until close at 11.20pm which includes a British beef burger with optional Monterey Jack cheese and bacon (£4.95 for single patty); grilled rump steak with shoestring fries and smoked butter (£9.95) and grilled half chicken (£7.95) and halloumi with green leaves, quinoa and beetroot (£7.50).
The 90-cover restaurant's drinks list includes Grillshack lager, made exclusively for the restaurant by Brewers & Union and a selection of wines on tap. There will also be a self-serve drinks counter for sodas and a range of juices and filter coffee.
Ordering process
Bass said one of the biggest innovations at the restaurant was the ordering process. Within the restaurant, diners can place orders at the counter directly with staff, or use touchscreen order points for self-order and payment. Food is then delivered to tables by waiting staff.
A Grillshack app for iOS and Android phones has also been developed and will be available to download from September. It will allow diners to make orders and pay in advance and have their food delivered to tables at the required time or available to pick up for takeaway.
Grillshack is the latest project from Caring, who backs Cote, Bill's and Caprice Holdings. The Soho site is expected to become the first of a chain.
