Tom Kitchin to open Edinburgh pub restaurant with Castle Terrace's Dominic Jack

The venue, which is set to launch in the spring, will open in the former San Marco restaurant on Mary's Place in the Stockbridge area of the city.

As yet unnamed, the pub will once again team up Kitchin, and his wife Michaela, with the chef patron of the Castle Terrace restaurant in Edinburgh which won its first Michelin star in the 2012 edition of the legendary guide.​

Tom and Michaela, who opened The Kitchin in 2006, helped launch Castle Terrace with Dominic Jack two and a half years ago.​

Revealing the news today on Twitter, Tom wrote: "We will be opening a pub in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, in the spring. It's a partnership between myself, @dominicjack, @mickitchin & Philippe. Very foodie & family-friendly. Will tell you more soon."

Restaurant manager Philippe Nublat, who has also worked on the management team of The Kitchin and Castle Terrace, will also play a part in launching the new pub.

Nature to plate​

According to a statement released by the team, the pub will showcase 'fresh Scottish scran' and will follow the 'from nature to plate' philosophy which both Kitchin and Jack have put at the heart of their restaurants:

"The pub is set to compliment the local area’s vibrant food and drink offering and the team will draw on their culinary flair, expertise and local supplier relationships, to present a warm, family-friendly atmosphere matched with affordable, freshly prepared, home-cooked dishes using the very best local produce."

A more informal offering than both The Kitchin and Castle Terrace, the new pub will be open seven days a week. Simple dishes using local produce will make up the majority of the menu, while local beers and drinks will also be on offer at the neighbourhood pub.

The venture will replace another family-run business which has been operating on the site since 1984 - brothers Franco and Nino Alonzi are closing the San Marco restaurant.

"While the decision to close the restaurant after 30 years was not an easy one, we're pleased to be handing over the property to another family run business," said the brothers.

"With two successful restaurants in the city we're confident they can continue to provide locals and visitors with a new destination to relax with friends and family, and enjoy great fresh food and drink," they added.
