Top London restaurants compete for World Food Award
The first ever World Food Awards (WFA) is to be held in London later this month, with The Cinnamon Club, Haandi and Haozhan all up for the Restaurant of the Year gong.
Organised by the World Foods Association, the WFA is to be held as a celebration of the best UK companies operating within the ethnic food sector across Europe, from wholesalers and catering suppliers to independent and national retailers.
The Cinnamon Club, Vivek Singh’s praised Inidan restaurant in Westminster, Haandi, an Indian restaurant group with sites in Knightsbridge and Edgeware, and Haozhan, a contemporary Chinese restaurant in London’s China Town will all be competing for the title of Restaurant of the Year.
The panel of judges, which include celebrity chefs Ainsley Harriot and Anjum Anand, David Moore of BBC2’s The Restaurant, and AA Hotel Services manager Simon Numphud, will decide the winners at a globally broadcast ceremony held at London’s Park Lane Hilton on 31 October.
Rajan Singh, executive vice president of International Business at Sony Entertainment Television Asia who will be broadcasting the event, said the huge growth of ethnic food in the UK reflects its status as one of the most multi-cultural countries in the world.
“From ethnic foods being stocked in supermarkets to renowned chefs experimenting with different ingredients giving dishes an international twist – it’s a very exciting time to be in the food sector and we are eager to support and encourage this through the World Food Awards,” he said.
Foodservice provider 3663 will also compete against Eurofoods Group and JJ Food Service for the Best Catering Supplier award.
