Welsh hamlet pub named best in Britain
The Pen-y-cae Inn in Powys near Swansea has been named as the Morning Advertiser’s Great British Pub of the Year at a ceremony held at London Park Lane last night.
The freehold gastropub situated in the Welsh hamlet of Pen-y-cae, which was also named the Best Gastropub and Best Pub in Wales, scooped the title over seven other regional pubs including the Black Lion in Hammersmith.
Owned by head chef Anthony Christopher, the recently restored Pen-y-cae Inn specialises in serving simple, fresh food made with local ingredients, and is known for its traditional pub hospitality.
The Morning Advertiser judges said: “The Pen-y-cae Inn is a stunning pub in a stunning location with a stunning food and drinks offering. Every facet of the business is based on providing the highest standards of service to customers from Christopher overseeing the food offering to head waiter Marcus Beritez looking after the front-of-house operations.”
