The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has called on hospitality businesses in London and South East England to withdraw certain meat and meat products from sale over food safety concerns.

Restaurants, cafés and hotels have been asked to withdraw from sale any meat or meat products supplied by Kent-based butcher Block and Cleaver because they may be unsafe to eat.

Products should be disposed of safely.

The FSA says beef, pork and chicken products supplied by Block and Cleaver’s cutting plant in Swanley may not have been produced in accordance with GB food law requirements.

It covers beef meat and meat products with a use by date up to and including 21 June 2024, and both pork meat and meat products and chicken meat and meat products with a use by date up to and including 22 June 2024.

These products may have incorrect use by dates, are subject to traceability breaches, may not have been manufactured in accordance with food safety management systems.

Any food businesses that have sold meat or meat products at retail or directly to consumers should undertake product recalls and inform their Local Authority, who are in turn requested to inform the FSA.

Environmental Health, Trading Standards Services and Official Veterinarians have been alerted.
