A co-founder of highly-rated Streatham pizzeria Bravi Ragazzi has chosen nearby Peckham for his first solo pizza project.

Andrea Ascuiti bills 081 Pizzeria as a contemporary Neapolitan pizza concept offering a ‘new age generation of Italian cuisine including innovative Napoli-style tapas dishes’.

Pizzas will be cooked in an electric oven that’s been approved by the Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana, which promotes and protects Neapolitan pizza.

The menu will strike a balance between the traditional and the modern, an example from the latter camp being Napoli RMX, which involves San Marzano tomato, burrata , anchovies, olives and capers.

Each pizza is 12” and prices start from £7.50 per pizza and £3.50 for tapas dishes, which include deep fried mac 'n' cheese with minced meat; and arancina filled with bolognese.

Ascuiti has worked with BadEgg Clothing to ‘create a bold, youthful and funky visual design’, influenced by urban culture and hip-hop music.

Located in street food hub Peckham Levels, 081 Pizzeria will open for delivery and collection on 1 May before opening to dine-in customers on 20 May.

“It’s such an exciting time to open a pizza restaurant despite the challenges posed by the lockdown - pizza has never been so loved in the UK as it is today," says Ascuiti.

"With 081 Pizzeria, I’m on a mission to change the perception of the typical Italian pizzerias by reimagining the legendary pizza culture of Naples and bringing it to the capital."
