- Rick Stein is celebrating 50 years since he opened The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow by rolling the prices back to 1975 when it first opened. The chef has delved into the archives and unearthed the original menu from the year The Seafood Restaurant opened and for a few days in February will make it available to his customers. From 6-9 February the group will offer its Rolled Back and Retro Menu, featuring some of the classic dishes that started it all, at 1975 prices. Dishes will include shellfish soup for just 50p; and a ragout de coquilles St Jacques et turbot a la crème de basilic for 65p.
- Tom Kitchin has announced is closing his Kora restaurant in Edinburgh’s Bruntsfield neighbourhood at the end of the month after two and a half years trading. Kitchin and his wife Michaela launched Kora in the summer of 2022 on the site of their former Southside Scran restaurant, which itself closed in early 2020.
- Sam Buckley, chef-patron at Where The Light Gets in Stockport, has launched a pop-up burger restaurant that ‘explores the notion of fast food through one cow’. Called Humbug, the pop-up is located at The Bungalow at Kampus in Manchester and makes use of just one cow, which Buckley has butchered to make 1,400 burgers. Humbug’s short menu features just one burger, the humburger, with the option to add cheese, as well as Carlingford oyster popcorn and Lion’s Mane popcorn, fries, onion rings and a range of dips - apple BBQ, chipotle mayo, and hot sauce.
- Californian burger brand Carl’s Jr. has chosen Cradiff for the site of its first UK restaurant. Opening in April, the 50-cover restaurant will be launched by Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG), which signed a master license agreement for Carl’s Jr. in the UK last year. The restaurant is expected to open within St David’s, the Welsh capital’s biggest shopping centre.
- Björn Frantzén’s Studio Frantzén restaurant at Harrods has closed to make way for a new upmarket grill concept that has been conceived by the department store itself. In its space Harrods has opened new restaurant The Grill on Fifth, a sister restaurant to The Grill in Harrods’ the Dining Hall area that majors on high-end steaks and burgers.
