The Soho-based pub will open a 185-cover site in the Battersea Power Station development, with the launch expected this spring.
The design of the new venue will blend the aesthetics of the Cha Chaan Teng tea houses of Hong Kong with that of a British pub, according to design company Macaulay Sinclair.
The interior will feature a bar area, banquette seating and will use wood as a key material.
“The much-loved Cha Chaan Teng are an integral part of South China’s culture stemming back to the early 1950s,” says Ian Roome, director at Macaulay Sinclair.
“Our British pubs and cafes hold a similar connection to our societal past. There is evidence that these Western influences crossed paths with the traditional teahouses, and this is what has inspired our design approach.”
The original Duck and Rice was launched by Wagamama founder Alan Yau in 2015 on the former site of The Endurance pub, but has since been taken on by new management.
The restaurant serves a range of dim sum and chop suey dishes as well as rice, noodles, and duck. It also serves Pilsner Urquell tank beer and has strong beer, cocktails and tea lists.
