Frantzén - who is among the world’s most successful chefs with an international portfolio that includes two three Michelin star restaurants - has yet to comment on the closure but a notice on the Studio Frantzén website says the restaurant will reopen later this year in a new location.
Harrods will open a new restaurant in the space tomorrow (15 January). The Grill on Fifth is being billed as a sister restaurant to The Grill in Harrods’ the Dining Hall area and will major on high-end steaks and burgers.
The price point is comparable to Studio Frantzén. Dishes will include British beef carpaccio with, pickled mushroom, Parmesan and crispy shallots (£16); spatchcock grilled baby chicken, charred lime, pomegranate, pistachio, hot honey glaze (£34); and wagyu smashed cheeseburger, house pickles, relish, American cheese (£34/£38 double/single).
House steaks with fixed prices start at £32 for a 200g flat iron of British beef. More exotic steaks are charged by weight, with options including a Kobe striploin at £166 per 100g.
It is understood that the restaurant - which prior to the switch over was run by a team employed by Harrods itself with Frantzén acting as a consultant - will only undergo minor cosmetic changes.
Frantzén’s debut UK restaurant, Studio Frantzén launched in late 2022 offering high-end Asian-influenced Nordic cuisine in a relatively casual setting.
The space has a little over 112 covers in total including a terrace area with far-reaching views across the capital.
In a statement, Harrods said: “We are sincerely grateful to our guests, partners and dedicated team members who have contributed to the restaurant’s success.
“While this carefully considered decision marks the conclusion of a remarkable partnership, we are excited for new opportunities that lie ahead for both the Frantzén team and Harrods restaurants. We take pride in all that has been achieved and are thankful to the support and enthusiasm shown by our community.”
