The Beach House Group will open a second Beach House, in Falmouth, Cornwall, next month.

Owners Tamara Costin and William Speed acquired clifftop site Hooked on the Rocks, overlooking Swanpool Beach, on the outskirts of Falmouth, in October last year and will reopen it as a seafood restaurant and bar.

Menus will focus on local, sustainably sourced seafood such as crab and lobster caught just eight miles down the coast; Falmouth Bay scallops; and daily fish specials from Newlyn market. Blue Fin tuna, which has only recently returned to UK coastal waters, will be fished in the waters just off the venue and will feature prominently on the menu in raw and grilled forms.

The redeveloped space will take inspiration from the laid-back vibes of Ibiza, with DJs on the terrace planned for the summer months. There are then further plans in winter to extend the site, adding more covers, seating areas for lounging with cocktails, and floor-to-ceiling glass walls on all beach-facing sides.

The group has retained Hooked on the Rocks’ original management team who have helped build a loyal community of customers over the years.

“Our places are all about enjoying good times and great local food in amazing locations, and Beach House Falmouth already feels like the essence of that,” says Costin.

“We’re so pleased to join Jack, Katie and the team, and are looking forward to meeting all the regular diners and customers.”

Speed adds, “My mother’s side of the family are all from Falmouth. I spent much of my childhood playing on Swanpool Beach, so when the opportunity arose for this spot, we just couldn’t say no.”

The original Beach House opened in 2010 on South Milton Sands, a National Trust-protected area of the South Hams, Devon. The humble beachside restaurant serves seafood platters, fries and a ‘Bucket List’ of beers and wines, served in plastic sandcastle buckets stacked with ice.

Costin and Speed have since opened two further sites: School House restaurant in Mothecombe, Devon, and Harbour House pub in Flushing, Cornwall.

The latter will welcome three en-suite bedrooms in spring 2025, marking The Beach House Group’s first accommodation offering.

Beach House Falmouth will open on 8 February.
