Lilac, the Lyme Regis-based wine bar and restaurant led by Harriet Mansell, is to move away from serving small plates and instead offer both a set menu and tasting menu.

The restaurant, which opened in 2021, said the move marks ‘a full return to its original ethos’, with the new menus focused on locally sourced produce and wild foods foraged by Mansell and her team from the Jurassic Coast.

The new three course set menu will cost £45 and include dishes such as charred smoky vegetable tartare with yogurt, sea herbs and alexanders, and venison with Haye Farm nduja, creamy spelt and three-cornered leek.

Lilac’s tasting menu will feature around 12 courses for £75 and include potato flatbread with smoked cod roe, chives, chervil and cheong; crab bisque with sage and alexanders; and Kilmington hogget, hazelnut and seaweed sauce, and leeks.

The move aligns Lilac closer with Robin Wylde, Mansell’s fine dining restaurant that she launched on Silver Street in Lyme Regis in late 2020 and closed in 2023.

A statement released by the restaurant said: “We are incredibly excited to introduce the evolution of Lilac.

“We are moving away from the small plates menu that we have offered for the past three and a half years. We will now be offering three thoughtfully curated menus that embody our commitment to creativity, sustainability, wild foods, locally sourced produce and care for ourselves and environment.

“It’s a full return to our original ethos.

“Harriet has always loved serving a tasting menu, and offering the personal touch of explaining the story behind the dishes and connection to the natural world around, and is excited to bring a move towards more of this in Lilac, while she continues to work on the perfect venue, set in nature, to offer the ultimate immersive wild and native foods experience.

“This will see a more special and elevated experience being offered at Lilac, whilst retaining its accessibility and buzzing ambiance.”

Lilac will also continue to serve a ‘signature snacks’ menu at its bar, and said it will keep seats available for walk ins and drinks only.
