Chotto Matte has closed its Marylebone restaurant to focus on its Soho flagship and its upcoming Manchester site.

In a statement provided to Restaurant the Kurt Zdesar-led group said that the 60-cover Paddington Street site did not fit with the rest of its portfolio due to its small format.

The restaurant is understood to have closed last month having launched in 2022 within the space that was previously home to Zdesar’s Italian bakery concept Fucina.

“After much thought and consideration, we have made the decision to close Chotto Matte Marylebone as we embark on an exciting new chapter of growth and international expansion,” a spokesperson for the Nikkei cuisine-inspired restaurant group says.

“These locations will continue to bring the unique Chotto Matte experience to individual cities across the world and we look forward to sharing more exciting news about our future in due course.”

Now part of Angus Steakhouse and Alley Cats Pizza operator Noble Hospitality Group, Chotto Matte was founded in 2013.

Chotto Matte has expanded rapidly overseas over the past five years with sites in Miami, San Francisco, Toronto, Doha, Riyadh and most recently the Georgian capital Tbilisi.

Early next year will see Chotto Matte make its regional debut with a 450-cover rooftop restaurant in Manchester.

Atop the St Michael’s development overlooking Manchester’s Town Hall, the 20,000sg ft restaurant will be the biggest in the city.
