Dubbed JÖRO 2.Ö in reference to the pair’s original JÖRO, which was located in a shipping container in Krynkl in Kelham Island in Sheffield, the new restaurant is located in the city’s Oughtibridge Paper Mill development within a renovated 19th-century paper mill.
The move, which was announced earlier this year, has allowed the couple to elevate their Nordic/Japanese restaurant, which now features two bars, an all-day dining terrace, an outdoor BBQ kitchen concept, seven boutique rooms and a deli shop in addition to the dining room.
It will also be home to a state-of-the art kitchen.
The new restaurant will stay true to French’s approach of applying modern techniques to local ingredients while drawing inspiration from Japanese and Nordic culinary traditions. It will serve signature tasting menus alongside a terrace menu that will showcase live-fire cooking using birch wood and charcoal.
Menu highlights include grilled Scottish scallops; salt-aged Yorkshire beef rump cap; whole teriyaki Quail; Basque blueberry cheesecake; and yuzu meringue pie.
SHÖP by JÖRO will sell a range of deli offering specialty ingredients, such as barrel-aged soy sauce and JÖRO’s house-made wine and gin.
“We’re incredibly excited to finally open the doors to our new home in January,” says French.
“This move has been years in the making, and we’ve poured so much thought into creating a space that elevates the JÖRO experience. The additional space means we can expand our offerings with the terrace, bars, and more, giving guests an array of ways to experience JÖRO.”
“As soon as we saw the site, we knew it was the perfect place for JÖRO 2.Ö,” adds Sherwood-French.
“It’s an incredible blend of natural beauty and industrial heritage, just 10 minutes from the city. We can’t wait to welcome guests to this amazing space and showcase everything we’ve been working on.”
JÖRO’s street food concept Konjö will continue to operate from the original shipping container site at Krynkl serving east Asian-inspired street food.
JÖRO 2.Ö opens officially on 15 January.
