Whitbread has appointed former Boparan CEO Joe Texeira as managing director for its restaurants division.

Texeira joins the group having previously spent six years in Dubai, working in various roles across the hospitality and retail sectors.

His role as CEO at Gourmet Gulf LLC saw him take responsibility for international brands such as YO!, Hummingbird Bakery, and Panda Express.

Prior to that he was managing director for Greene King’s Loch Fyne Seafood Grill and Premium Retail Pubs.

He also served as CEO of Boparan Restaurant Group between 2011 and 2017, and as head of foodservice at John Lewis & Partners between 2001 and 2011.

“I am delighted to announce that after 6 years in the MENA region, based in Dubai, I have returned to the UK to join Whitbread PLC as managing director for the restaurant business.” Texeira wrote on LinkedIn.

“I look forward to working with our exceptional teams to empower them to create wonderful experiences for our valued guests!”

Back in October, Whitbread announced it had accepted offers on 51 of its branded F&B sites, for a total consideration of £56m, as part of its plans to exit 126 restaurants and convert 112 others into hotel rooms.

The group, whose portfolio also includes the Premier Inn hotel chain, continues to operate more than 200 restaurants nationwide under brands including Beefeater, Brewers Fayre, and Bar + Block brands.
