WSH Restaurants takes former Mere site in Fitzrovia for new modern British concept

The Woodspeen and The Braywood operator WSH Restaurants has taken the former Mere site in London’s Fitzrovia for an as-yet-unnamed modern British restaurant.

Monica and David Galetti shuttered Mere earlier this year after seven years with no reason given for the closure other than the pair saying that they ‘felt it was the right time’.

Restaurant understands that the lease of the 74 Charlotte Street site is held by Alastair Storey, a key backer of Mere and chief executive of contract catering company WSH and a director of WSH Restaurants

The new restaurant is expected to launch in early spring next year. More details about the kitchen team and menus are due to be announced in January.

The launch will bring WSH’s portfolio up to five with the restaurant joining the newly-opened The Braywood, near Maidenhead (on the former site of The Royal Oak at Paley Street), The Sparsholt (in Oxfordshire), The Clockspire (near Sherborne in Dorset), and The Woodspeen, near Newbury.

The latter – which was initially a joint project with Storey and high-profile chef John Campbell – celebrated its 10th anniversary early this year.
