The family-run restaurant, which is located on Clapham High Street, will move into its new home on pedestrianised Venn Street in the heart of Clapham Old Town.
The new, larger restaurant will have additional indoor and al fresco seating but will retain many of the original site’s features, including raw materials, pendant lighting and tables.
The decor will include specially commissioned drawings by illustrator and artist Paul Davis together with paintings and photographs of owner Sami Wasif’s family, and a playful nod to the fourteenth century monastic themes found in Umberto Eco’s novel The Name of the Rose.
To celebrate the move, the restaurant has announced a week-long soft launch period from 9 December during which time it will be offering 25% off all food.
Eco was opened in 1993 and takes its name from the Umberto Eco novel-turned-film that was playing at the nearby Clapham Picture House.
Wasif was among the first to bring authentic sourdough pizzas to the UK, and the new kitchen will continue to use the same recipe he first witnessed over half a century ago in his native Egypt.
