Luna will take over the space previously occupied by D&D London’s Le Pont de la Tour Food Store and is positioned as a neighbourhood-style wine bar, bottle shop and restaurant.
Holding 28 covers inside, including a counter dining bar, Luna will be led by Legare founders Jay Patel and Matt Beardmore (pictured), with the latter also overseeing the kitchen as executive chef.
Details on the menu are yet to be released, but will include a selection of crudo and carpaccio dishes sliced to order.
"Matt is a phenomenal chef with a pitch perfect palate,” says Patel, a former GM at Barrafina Adelaide St and Koya City.
“We opened Legare together [in 2019], and he’s been alongside me on this journey from the very start.
“His cooking honours the integrity of the ingredients, without the need for fussy peripheral garnish or extras that often detract from the actual joy of a simple well-executed dish.
“It’s this philosophy that we’ve honed together along with our wonderful team at Legare that we now hope to continue at Luna when we open on the Shad Thames cobbles in the new year.”
The bar’s wine focus is described as being ‘more akin to classic London wine bar institutions’.
Patel will work with suppliers that have portfolios with old world producers, use ethical farming practices, and follow biodynamic and organic principles.
There will also be a focus on producers in regions outside of Italy, marking a point of difference with the wine offering at Legare.
The aesthetics at Luna will also differ from Legare, with darker wood tones and reclaimed Moroccan zellige tiles used for the flooring.
“We are really proud of our little corner of the world in Shad Thames and what we've created here with Legare over the last five years,” adds Patel.
“We are super excited to finally introduce our new wine bar to our loyal local customers who’ve supported us, and those who travel from across London and further afield to dine with us over the last five years at Legare.”
Legare and Luna will both operate as part of Patel's NinthCollective restaurant group.
