Northern-based restaurant group Mission Mars was the big winner at last night’s R200 Awards.

The group behind the Albert’s Schloss and Rudy’s pizza brands took home gongs in the Best New Opening category as well as for Restaurant Group of the Year over 20 sites.

Albert’s Schloss London, the group’s ambitious site on Shaftesbury Avenue that opened in the summer, beat off strong competition to claim the title of Best New Opening. The largest of the group’s Alpine cook haus and Bavarian bier palaces, the venue was recently described by Grace Dent in the Guardian as a ‘stroke of genius’.

Mission Mars was also named Restaurant Group of the Year over 20 sites following a stellar performance. The company has built a strong estate of restaurants in the capital under its Rudy’s brand and recently reported revenue growth of 51% in its 2023 accounts.

The annual awards, created by Restaurant, celebrate excellence in the hospitality sector and are voted for by industry professionals. They were held last night at a special dinner at Hawksmoor’s Canary Wharf restaurant.

Other winners on the night included growing chain Sandwich Sandwich, which was named One to Watch, Florian de Chezelles and James Dare’s The Salad Project, which took home the Scalable Concept Award, Sticks ‘n’ Sushi, named Restaurant Group of the Year (20 sites and under), and Rockfish, which won the Innovation Award for its Virtual Fishmonger.

Dishoom also picked up two awards. The group won in the Campaign of the Year category for its recent partnership with New York-based Pastis, which served around 7,000 people for breakfast, with tickets selling out in less than five minutes and 20,000 people joining the waiting list.

Brian Trollip, newly-appointed CEO at the Indian restaurant group, was named Person of the Year.
